This intricate and delicate set of pendant and earrings is made with sterling, fine and Bali silver with many different shapes, sizes and shades of amethyst ans some deep purple fresh water pearls.

The long chain has been accented with tiny sterling silver beads as well as different shaped amethyst beads.

Conjunto de colgante y pendientes realizado en plata fina, plata de ley, con una pieza grande y labrada de plata de Bali, diversos tipos de amatistas y perlas de agua dulce moradas. La pieza central del colgante es un delicado trabajo artesanal que juega con las formas de la plata y los distintos tipos de amatistas, del que cuelga una hermosa pieza labrada de plata de Bali y una cascada de amatistas y perlas de agua dulce de color morado. Se presenta colgado de una larga cadena de plata decorada con pequeñas amatistas y plata de ley.

Los pendientes imitan el delicado trabajo de la pieza central de la que cuelga una gota de amatista.

La tonalidad de la pieza está inspirada en la belleza de los atardeceres de la hermosa isla de Kauai.

Made with sterling (92.5%) and fine (99%) silver, cubic zirconia, white topaz and rock crystal.
Inspired in the Palacio de Cristal of the Parque del Retiro in Madrid .
Silver has been oxidized to bring out the intricate shape of the piece.

The Palacio de Cristal or Crystal Palace is a large glass and steel building in Madrid, Spain.

It is located in the Retiro Park (a very large park in the heart of the city). The palace was built in 1887 as a winter garden for exotic plants for a 19th Century Exhibition dedicated to the Philippines. Designed by Ricardo Velazquez Bosco.
Exhibitions of modern art are regularly held inside the building which ranges from surrealistic metal sculptures to aviary shows.

I´ve always loved how the light reflects on it!

Este ha sido un proyecto en el que he buscado plasmar el ambiente de la novela "La estrella oscura" basándome en la descripción que el autor, Leonardo Ropero, hace de la "piedra verde de Larten" y en el boceto que Conchita, su esposa, me envió. He procurado que tanto el colgante como el marcador de libros nos acercaran con la imaginación a ese mundo fantástico que la novela describe.

Es algo muy distinto de lo que yo suelo hacer pero me atrajo la propuesta de realizar unas piezas basadas en una novela de tipo fantástico. Espero que os gusten tanto las piezas como el libro!Es muy entretenido y me ha encantado!

Resumen:

Goodbye Yucca/ Adiós Yucca

Yucca passed away October 16th, she was eleven and a half years old, it took us by surprise, she was perfectly fine and in less than ten minutes later she was gone. I was holding her head trying to help her breathe, while I was at the phone with the vet, but everything happened too quick.It was a massive cardio-respiratory failure, it might have been a clot, we opted not to have an autopsy.

She was a great pup, very special and the smartest dog I´ve seen and had.She loved going to the beach with her doggie pals, and going to bars to have tapas ;) shrimp was her fave.very affectionate with her humans and endless patience with cats.

It has been hard getting adjusted to the daily routine without her, specially when I go home and have no one to greet me, she made the cutest "bear noises" when you rubbed her ears.

I´m not ready to have another dog for now, but when I am I will go to an animal shelter to adopt an adult, there are so many homeless and abandoned dogs that need a second chance!

Loosing Yucca and the way it happend was a huge shock, so i needed to take a few weeks off the internet/jewelry making, I was blocked, I just wasn´t able to create anything for some time.Now I´m back with renovated energy and many projects and updates.

I wanted to share some pics of her, so I´ve made this little gallery to share some pics of her.I miss her!

Yucca se murió inesperadamente el 16 de octubre tenia once años y medio,estaba perfectamente y en menos de diez minutos la perdimos, la estaba cogiendo para ayudarle a respirar mientras estaba al telefono con el veterinario, pero todo pasó demasiado deprisa. Fue un fallo cardio-respiratorio masivo, quizas fue causado por un coagulo, pero optamos por no realizar una autopsia.

Era una perrita muy especial y la mas lista de los perros que he tenido.Le encantaba ir a la playa con sus "amiguitos" e ir de tapas ;) su tapa favorita eran las gambas.Muy cariñosa con los suyos y una paciecia infinita con gatos.
Ha costado adaptarse a la rutina diaria sin ella, especialmente ir a casa, siempre recibia muy contenta y hacia unos "ruidos de osito" muy monos cuando le rascabas las orejitas o la papada.

Por ahora no estoy preparada para tener un perro, pero cuando lo este iré a una protectora para adoptar a un adulto, hay muchos perros abandonados esperando una segunda oportunidad.

Perder a Yucca de esta manera fue un golpe duro, asi que necesité tomarme unas semanas libres, sin estar por internet ni hacer cositas, simplemente me bloqueé perdi la capacidad de crear por un tiempo.Ahora he vuelto, con energias renovadas y con muchos proyectos.
Queria compartir unas cuantas fotos de mi gordi, asi que aqui tenenis una pequeña galeria.

I now make hair accesories for weddings/parties/special occasions!This was a challenge I wanted to try for a while and i finally have!I love flowers, so I´ve been working with the fabrics to get different shapes and effects, I still want to experiment with more materials.I´m also making brooches with them, i wear a different one on my purse every day ;).And...I´m addicted!I already have a box full of flowers in many shapes and colors waiting for the right project!
This are a few finished pieces I´ve made so far.

Ahora realizo accesorios para bodas/fiestas/ocasiones especiales!Llevaba tienpo queriendo intentarlo y por fin me he lanzado!Me encantan ls flores asi que he trabajado con distintas telas para conseguir distintas formas y efectos, aun tengo que experimentar con más materiales.También realizo broches con ellas, llevo una direnete en el bolso cada dia ;) Es una adicción!Ya tengo una caja llena de flores de todas formas y colores esperando a ser usadas en un proyecto!

This copper ring is made from scratch and is the result of my first time making flowers (thanks Jen!), I also got to experiment with different textures and play with the torch,I really hadn´re really planned how I wanted it to look, I just kept going...as you can see in the other pics, I wanted an "organic" look for the rest of the ring to match the flower, so it sort of looks like interweaved branches/twigs.

Este anillo realizado en cobre esta heche con hilo y laminas de cobre, es el resultado de mi primer experimento haciendo flores con este material (gracias Jen!), fui experimentando con difernetes texturas y jugando con el soplete, no tenia planeado como iba a ser la pieza finalo, simplemente fui improvisando...como se pede apreciar en las fotografias, queria que tuviese una apariencia "organica" por lo que el aro del anillo se asemeja a pequeñas ramas entrelazadas

No vacation for me this year!Been busy and missing, burried in books!! Will be gone till sept.6th, after I finish all my tests i´ll be back to work in many things I have sketched, but before that, I have a cool collaboration/project I´ll post about once I finish it. Also I´ve bought a few gemstone pendants, some in quite original shapes that I can´t wait to use in necklaces!!

And here´s are a few pics of my study coach,working hard, he thinks resting is very important part of studying.He also believes studying by osmosis is the best method ;)

Este año nada de vacaciones!He estado ocupada y desaparecida, entre libros!!Estare ausente hasta el 6 de sept, despues de terminar los examenenes, podre volver a trabajar en los diseños que tengo en mi libretita, pero antes tengo una colaboracion/proyecto que ya comentare cuando lo termine.También he comprado varios colgantes de semipreciosas, algunos tallados de forma original que tengo ganas de utilizar en collares largos!!

This luxurious and intricate set was a custom design for a bride, this piece was especifically designed for my customer, so it´s one of a kind.

Delicado y lujoso conjunto de pendientes y broche de novia, especialmente diseñado para mi cliente, es, por tanto pieza única

Rêve d´amour

"Dream of Love" is an intricate desing created from scratch in which many meters of sterling (92.5%) and fine (99%)silver were used.The focal piece is a stunning white topaz, and I have used tiny faceted white topaz rondelles, cubic zirconia,many different shapes of fresh water pearls, some are so tiny, just 2mm!!, beautiful keishi pearls and rock crystal.
The post is a beautiful sterling silver drop with many tiny c.zirconias.
They measure 2.75".It was quite a challenge and time consuming task to find the perfect gems for this piece.

Pendientes "Sueño de amor", un bello y elaborado diseño que ha necesitado para su realización de muchos metros de plata de 1ªley (.925)y plata pura (.999).Las piezas centrales son hermosos topacios blancos, se han utilizado tambien rondeles facetados de topacio blanco, circonitas, distintas variedades de perlas de agua dulce, algunas tan diminutas como 2mm, hermosas perlas keishi y cristal de roca.
La fornitura del pendiente es de plata de ley incrustada de pequeñísimas circonitas. La medida total es de unos 7 cms.
La búsqueda de las gemas perfectas para esta pieza fue, también, un trabajo laborioso.

Jardin des Nuages

"Garden of Clouds" was first created as a brooch to be worn on the veil, but it was designed in such way it could be trasformed into a bracelet.
Brooch was also made from scratch with many meters od sterling and fine silver, different types of pearls, sterling silver beads and rock crystal, and when it was transformed into the bracelet I also added cubic zirconia and white topaz along with more fresh water peals and rock crystal.

"Jardín de nubes" fue creado, inicialmente, como broche para el velo de novia, pero fue diseñado para que pudiera ser transformado posteriormente en pulsera. Es asimismo un bello y elaborado diseño que ha necesitado para su realización muchos metros de plata de 1ªley (.925)y plata pura (.999), perlas de agua dulce, perlas keishi, cuentas de plata y cristal de roca. Para su transformación en pulsera se utilizaron circonitas, topacios blancos y más perlas de agua dulce y cristal de roca.

Pendientes realizados en los cálidos colores de otoño con unas pequeñas flores que realzan la parte superior.

Esta pieza, a la que hay que dedicarle horas de delicado trabajo, está realizada en plata de ley , plata fina (99%), citrino, peridotita, hidrocuarzo y perlas de rio. Sus colores se combinan a la perfección para crear un par de pendientes ideales para lucir en esas ocasiones especiales!

This are just a few of the new gemmies I got, rubies, citrine, peridot, aquamarine, amethyst...I just need more hours in a day to be able to make things with them!
I love them, buying gemstones can be a bit addictive.
I´m planning to open an online store to share some of the beauties I buy ;), I hope it can be soon, but it´s quite more time consuming to organize everything!

Estas son algunas de las semipreciosas nuevas, en las fotos hay rubies, citrino, peridotita, aguamarina, amatista...ahora solo necesito mas horas en el dia para poder hacer cosas con ellas!Me encantan y comprarlas puede causar un poco de adicción.

This lapel brooch pins were a custom order of wedding gifts,they are made with f.coral and I also took pics of how I presented them, it was quite time consuming, but I like to take care of detais and have nice presentations.

Estos son unos brochecitos de alfiler con coral fosil que hice como detalles de boda.La foto superior solo en una pequeña muestra de algunas de las piezas realizadas para el encargo para poder mostrar la gran variedad de colores y formas!!

Sweet charm bracelet/Una pulsera dulce

This was the project I did with my students in the craft class.They loved the bracelet and had fun with polymer clay, some even had time to make matching earrings!
This was the first time I´ve made "food" with polymer clay and I made it with very little time, so next time I´ll experiment some more :)

este fue la pieza que trabaje con las niñas en la clase de manualidades, les encanto la pulsera y se lo pasaron muy bien con la arcilla polimerica, incluso algunas tivieron tiempo para hacer pendientes a juego!Esta ha sido la primera vez que he probado a hacer "comida" y tuve muy poco tiempo para hacer la pulsera, asi que para la proxima, sin prisas ire experimentando y probando mas cosillas :)

This is St.Peter´s chuch, it´s right by the beach, it´s one of the most popular views,everyone protoghaphs/paints this scene.

This long copper necklace has mookaite,fossil coral and rhodonite gemstones.It measures 37 inches.

Este largo collar de cobre tiene tres tipos de semipreciosas: mokaita, coral fosil y rodotina .Mide 94 cm.

I´ve just gotten this mookaite and fossil coral beads that are gorgeous!I couldn´t decide with one to use first, so I used them both!
Mookaite is a gemstone that comes from Australia that has a very insteresting color combination; it comes in pink/burgundry/brown/yellow shades.

No sabia si estrenar antes la mokaita o el coral fosil...!Asi que utilice ambos para este diseño!. La mokaita es un jaspe de Australia que tiene una combinacion de colores muy interesante con una mezcla de tonos rosas/marrones/amarillos/granates.

Me encanta tener la oportunidad de "jugar" con piedrecitas blancas y transparentes, asi como perlas, resulta muy divertido crear diseños en los que no se utliza el color.Estas son las que estan completamente terminadas, pero hay más en camino ;)

Sorolla´s Light/La Luz de Sorolla

This pair of earrings are hancrafted in several sizes of sterling silver wire and beads and a gorgeous and shinny blue/gray quartz briolette.They are 2" long including the earpost.They are light weight, with 4mm ball ear posts.

In this detail photo I wanted to show the color and brightness of the briolette.

This earrings are inspired by Joaquin Sorolla´s painting "Paseo a la orilla del Mar" (Walk by the seaside) an oil painting from 1909 that can be seen in the Sorolla Museum in Madrid.

I recently got as a gift a book about Sorolla, I´ve always loved his paintings, the way he captures light in his paintings is so unique and breathtaking, you can feel the movement of the scene, it becomes so real.

On this painting I love the contrast of the white clothes aganist the beach.The briolettes I used are exactly the color of the water in his painting and it makes a nice contrast with the bright sterling silver; I wanted to create a design that could be worn by the lady in the painting.

Estos pendientes están realizados con varios tamaños de hilo y cuentas de plata de ley y una gota de cuarzo azul-grisaceo, miden unos 5 cm y son muy ligeros.

Están inspirados en el oleo de Sorolla "Paseo a la orilla del Mar", siempre me ha encantado como capta la luz en sus obras, y con esta pieza queria realizar unos pendientes que pudiese llevar la chica que aparece en el cuadro, siendo la gota de cuarzo del color del mar y contrastando con el brillo de la plata.

Finally the sun is here!I wantwed to make a versatile pair of earrings that would match any outfit and spring inspired the flower theme, so this little cuties are made with sterling silver,shinny faceted rock crystal and filled wih tiny moonstone rondeles and are just a bit over an inch including the earwire.
This pair of delicate bright flowers is a must have!They are cute for any ocasion!

Por fin viene el buen tiempo!Queria realizar un par de pendientes que valiesen para todas las ocasiones, inspirada por la primavera realice estas pequeñas flores hechas con plata de ley, pequeñas y brillantes piezas de cristal de roca facetado y en el centro unas diminutas cuentas de piedra de luna miden unos 2,8 cm incluyendo el gancho.
Este par de delicadas y brillantes flores son unas piezas indispensables, ya que son ideklaes para cualquier ocasion!

I made this pair of earrings on the 31st to go out that night, I usually don´t make things for myself, but I just HAD to use those big s.silver beads!On top I added black onyx, labradorite and moonstone.

In Spain January 6th, is the "Día de los Reyes Magos" (the Epiphany). On this day children receive their presents.

At night turrón and champaign is left for the 3 Wise Men to snack, and a bucket or bowl with water for the camels. Each member of the family leaves a pair of shoes under the Christmas tree on the 5th and the presents will be around them next morning.

If yoú´ve been good they´ll leave you presents, if you haven´t they´ll leave you a bag full of coal.

In the morning everyone opens their presents and it´s typical to have “Roscon de Reyes” for breakfast with some hot chocololate.

It is traditional to put 2 surprises inside the "roscon." A porcelain figure and a dry bean are hidden in the dough. Whoever finds figure will have good luck, but if you find the bean – you pay for the cake!

This was our Roscon this year, it was really good; i´d say the 2nd best ivé tried so far, number one is from a bakery from Llanes.
This is the little ceramic surprise from this year,added a penny for size reference.It´s my fave king, Baltasar!

When you are a kid you choose a fave one (Melchor,Gaspar or Baltasar) and during the parade on the night of the 5th you call out his name and ask for the presents

The roscon is made specially for this day, so you can only enjoy it once a year!!
I haven´t been updating the blog of anything, been too busy working on my jewelry and custom orders, yesterday I spent the day delivering the last ones, so today i´m taking the day off, I´ll probably start uploading on flickr the pics of the pieces I have left tomorrow.

If you get the surprise in the roscon you get to be crowned, of course I gave the crown to the queen of the house, Yucca:

Después de un fin de semana productivo aqui ponogo solo algunas de las fotos de las piezas que he estado haciendo, he estado haciendo pendientes y pulseras, aun tengo pendientes unos cuantos collares largos!

Yucca

This is a pic of my dog, Yucca is a spanish mastiff (Mastín Español) mixed with a fourth part of german shepherd, this is my fave pic of her.
We adopted her when she was just 6 weeks old (and weighting over 13 lbs!)amd she is already 10 years old!
She´s extremely smart and very stubborn (her the mastiff side ;)) but very affectionate, noble, calm and sweet.
She always makes this cute "bear noise" when you give her a good head/neck scratch, loves attention and cuddles; and with her "they don´t feed me" face she always manages to get extras from strangers!
Always enjoy taking her to the beach on winter nights for a run, but after we have to visit her fave dog-friendly café where she always gets her own "tapas"

Rosaries/Rosaries

I made some rosaries (for the first time),because I wanted to make one for my grandma and to sell.
This 3 are made with red coral, blue turquoise and dark purple amethyst.All metal components are sterling silver.

Flower Earrings/Pendientes de Flor

I made this earrings as a gift, it was quite a challenge, I had to think of a design that didn´t require any tools at all bacause I didn´t have any available at the time, so I came up with this flower earrings; they are made with this beautiful golden pearls and peridot, I used a long kidney earwires.

Estos son unos pendientes que hice para un regalo, tuve que pensar en un diseño que no requiriese ningún tipo de herramientas ya que no tenia ninguna disponible en ese momento, asi que hice estos pendientes con perlas doradas y peridotita, utilizando un gancho hippie largo.

Pulsera de piedras naturales/Chunky gemstone bracelet

This is a gift for a friend´s birthday; I wanted to make something different, so I made a bracelet using the gemstones she likes (tiger eye, and different types of green jade and jaspers), and added a few more (carnelian, moonstone, adventurine, silver brushed bead...) to blend the colors, combining different shaped and sizes to get an earthy-colored bracelet .All metal components are sterling silver.

Esta pieza la realicé para regalarsela a una amiga; queria hacer algo distinto asi que combine distintos tipos de piedra que le gustan (ojo de tigre, varios tipos de jade y jaspes) y añadí otras piedras (cornalina, piedra de luna, aventurina, cuentas de plata....) para conseguir una gama de colores tierra. Cierre y cuentas de plata de ley.

Geisha Cell Charm / Colgante para Movil de Geisha

This is a project I made to participate in a contest/swap from one of the forums I participate in; We had to make cell charms or key-chains; and this is what I came up with...and I´m proud to say my group won the contest!I recieved 3 beautiful key-chains(thanks Celia, Runa and Dicope!); one in polymer clay and 2 with beaded materials.

I custom-made the boxes I sent them with the theme.

Adicted to silver // Adicta a la Plata

This has been one crazy and busy summer, Monday I got back to work and I finally have time to sit and use the internet.

So I´ve gone crazy and I´ve bought A LOT of sterling silver beads and findings!
I have tons and tons of gorgeous and HUGE brushed silver beads in different shapes and sizes, bali beads and spacers, plain silver beads, earwires, chains,toggles... but my faves are this stardust silver beads with this cute pattern on them, I haven´t seen them anywhere else, now I regret not buying more!
Here is a pic of some of the things I got...not all is pictured, I bought over a pound of silver.

Este verano ha sido una locura, he estado tan liada que apenas he tenido tiempo para usar internet, pero tras terminar el verano y la reincorporación al trabajo todo empieza a volver a la normalidad.

Tras un ataque de locura he comprado un montón de cuentas y entrepiezas de plata...más de medio kilo!!Tengo ganchos de pendientes, bolitas de plata pequeñas,cadenas, cierres, separadores y cuentas de bali, y unas cuentas INMENSAS de plata con una bonita textura de distintas formas y tamaños.
Tan solo he fotografiado algunas de las piezas compradas.

My first entry on the blog!

My name is Monica and I love making jewelry.

I live up north in Spain, surrounded by very beautiful mountains and beaches. I love nature, animals, art and travelling whenever I have the opportunity, I always enjoy visiting my family back in the US.

I started by making a pair of earrings and I was hooked! I make different styles of rings, necklaces, bracelets and earrings; I love to try different techniques and experiment with different types of materials (silver, copper, polymer clays, gemstones, Swarovski…).
I first made mostly jewelry with Swarovski, and then I started using gemstones, and now I´m addicted to them! ;) I have quite a collection.
I also like to make felt brooches, key chains, cell charms, hair accessories…a little bit of everything!

Dofikatt came up taking the name of one of my kitties “Dofi”, I wanted a name that nobody else could have, so I made it up :).Here´s a pic of the real kitty after my brand name:

I chose this pic of him sleeping in wich I based the kitty for the logo

Para mi primer post en este nuevo blog tan solo quiero presentarme.

Soy Mónica, vivo en Asturias y me dedico al diseño artesanal de bisutería y complementos.

Todo empezó por casualidad y poco a poco comencé a hacer anillos, pulseras, collares, pendientes, broches, llaveros, colgantes de móvil…vamos, un poco de todo!
Me encanta utilizar distintos materiales y técnicas para experimentar y poder desarrollar líneas distintas.

Uno de mis materiales favoritos son las piedras semipreciosas, me encantan sus colores, texturas y formas que siempre son una fuente de inspiración.
Mi marca nació por casualidad, creada a parte del nombre de uno de mis gatitos, Dofi.
